With apologies to Clement Clarke Moore:
‘Twas the second of December, when all through the house
Not a creature was stirring, not even a mouse;
The fire burned merrily in the chimney with care,
In hopes that the quilters soon would be there;
The children still nestled all snug in their beds,
While visions of away time danced in Mom’s head;
And Shelly and Sherry in their bright Christmas hats,
Had just settled down with a cider and snack.
Decorations are hung, kits made and arranged
Everything so tidy, it almost looks strange!
Gifts for our quilters, gifts for our friends
Fabrics to sew with, colors to blend
Suddenly the door bells rang with a clatter,
We sprang from our chairs like a pair of mad hatters.
On with the music! Up with the lights!
A quilter is here looking for gifts just right.
Come in, Friends, be welcome in our quaint little shop!
So off with your jacket, your mittens, and tops,
stop for a breath, a drink, and relax.
Shop as you like, there’s even no tax!
A gift for a friend who just arrived from a trip
You need something neat to make up real quick.
With a grin we reply, we’re so happy you came!
We whistled, and shouted, and called them by name:
“Here’s MUG MATS and COASTER KITS! There’s POP-UPS galore!
There’s PILLOWCASE and SCARF KITS found in the store!
Easy JOURNAL COVERS for kids! Or SOUP BOWLS for fall!
Now dash away! Sew away! Get one or get all!”
And then, in a twinkling, you hear from the store
Strains of Christmas carols, making you want more.
Scents of fresh cider, crisp cookies, and fudge
Can’t find a seat? Give someone a nudge!
Don’t dally, don’t pause while making the drive
Our party only lasts from noontime to five!
We hope you will join us for an afternoon of fun!
And Sunday’s our last open day before the year’s done.
With good friends, food, presents and gifts galore,
We’re hoping you’ll visit, and come back for more.
And you’ll hear us exclaim, as you walk out of sight,
HAPPY CHRISTMAS TO ALL, AND TO ALL A GOOD-NIGHT!
